It feels great!!!!! #EBELPlayOffs Thx everybody on congrats and whishes!

Salzburg played 399 #EBEL games since Pierre Pagé took over on May 1st, 2007.

In 37 Spielen (inkl.

Spiel 6 in Salzburg.

Huge snipe by @rduncan16 .

First game in round 2 of playoffs on the road in Vienna. HUGE game!!! Good luck RBS!

The Bears entered the 2nd phase of the regular season (placement round) seeded 2nd overall. Not being able to perform on a similar level as in the 1st part of the regular season, Medveščak finished 4th in the placement round posting a 4-4-2 record. Consequently, their quarter final opponent was the only “unpicked” team of Graz, Villach, Znojmo and Salzburg. No big surprise that Vienna, Linz and Klagenfurt didn’t pick Salzburg.

This series turned out to be an emotional, physical and close one. Three of the six games went to overtime, four were decided by a goal difference of one. Furthermore, the Department of Players Safety (DOPS) suspended three players for incidents in this series, while 140 minor penalty and 20 misconduct penalty minutes were awarded by the officials.

Rob Schremp summarizes game #2 in Salzburg Tuesday night. And indeed – this one was a wild one. Both goalies got run over, there were 20 two-minute minors, one misconduct and one penalty shot.

After 78 seconds in overtime, Thomas Raffl got tripped by David Brine as he was away with the racers going all alone on Michael Ouzas. With Raffl deking on the forehand side this game was over, 4:3 Salzburg. The series is now tied at one and goes back to Zagreb, where game #3 will be played on Thursday. The reason:

Two players will miss the clash at Dom Sportova because of suspensions: Kyle Greentree (one game) and Daniel Welser (four games) were suspended by the Department of Player Safety following their checks (on Justin DiBenedetto resp. Robert Kristan) in game #2 on Tuesday in Salzburg. Read the announcement of the DOPS decision here.

A decisive criterion in game #3 could be the PP. While Zagreb scored four of their six goals in the series with the man advantage, Salzburg only converted one of their seven power plays leading to an efficiency of 14,3%, compared to the Bear’s 33,3% (4/12).

The last opponent in Zagreb in the intermediate round will be Villacher SV on Friday. Both teams need to improve their performance for the postseason. While Zagreb is 2-2-1 in the last five games Villach is 2-3-0. If Klagenfurt earns the maximum of one point in their last game in Vienna on Friday, Zagreb would need a win with a five-goal difference to earn the pick right for their first play-off opponent.

That’s a turnaround: Salzburg was trailing in only 15:33 of the last 360:00 minutes they played, that’s 4.3%. #EBEL #EBELstats
